Why the new background?

For those of you who visit my blog you may have noticed that I changed my background. A very dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with breast and uteran cancer. I guess this my very small way of drawing awareness to it.

And thank you to all of you who pitched in the help me put together this comfortghan for her. She loves it, as does her cat. *smile*
Viqui, please know my prayers and thoughts are with you. You are strong,
YOU WILL BEAT THIS!!

Who said??

Now, who said you couldn't have cookout in your own backyard?? Friday night me and my dh and ds had dinner outside. We have a lot of brush to burn so dh decided we should cook hotdogs on the fire. Great idea!! Austin loved it, as you can see. The two burnt hotdogs you see are mine. DH made them for me......they were still yummy though!!
That's sure one thing you gotta love about Texas. In January you can have a picnic in your back yard!!

When you're cold, you're cold

When we bought this house the heater worked. It worked for about 2 days before we had to call out a repairman. He 'rigged' it so it would work through the holidays, then it literally burnt up. Luckily, we live in Texas where it doesn't get too cold so we've been able to keep the house warm enough with a few of this little heaters. It's 60 degress here today so this morning, when it was cooler I had only one on, on low. I guess Chico was not warm enough curled up in an afghan so he took his place in front of the heater. I thought it was just too cute to keep to myself!!

My Wierdness Within Me Meme

Iwas tagged by Sonia (Sallenlouisetx)
THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the 6 weird things about you. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

Ok, now to my 6 wierd things......

1. I talk 'Texadian'. My family thinks I talk Texan and my 'Texans' think I have a Canadian accent. My son coined the phrase 'Texadian' just for me.

2. I like to dip my pizza in Ranch dressing. Is that wierd?

3. I believe in ghosts and spirits. I swear I've heard and felt them in the past.

4. I don't own a pair of socks. Now, I don't think that's wierd but my hubby does. I don't like to wear anything but sandals or slip-ons, so why bother with socks?

5. I never the house without my camera. You just never know when a Kodak moment is going to happen.

6. I don't like to talk about things going wrong in the world because I'm afriad if I say it out loud then it will happen but if I don't talk about it, all will be fine. Yes, I know that's odd, naive, whatever, but it works my world.....*wink*

Okay...I am going to tag...

Here's my house

Well, I've had a few people ask me for pictures of my new house so here they are.

Here is the star my parents bought us for Christmas. It's on the front of the house and I just love it

Here is my kitchen. If you look in the oven, you can see the ham I'm making for dinner tonight

Here is myh living room. The pillow case on the floor is full of Bernat Softee Chunky, 4 skeins, because I had to wash them. They were pee'd on. Not sure who did it. That's the last time I leave a WalMart sack on the floor. You can also see my computer area (always the messiest), the kitchen and the dining area are in this pic too

Here is another angle of my kitchen. I love the big island and the big window that looks out into the treed yard

Here is my the front of my house from the road. I'm not too thrilled about the outside of the house, the paint colors that is, and we're going paint this spring. A creamy yellow for the main part, burgundy shutters and dark green around the trim.

Here is a pic of the back yard. There are tons of trees, mostly oak trees. We spent a lot of time raking the leaves and burning them a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait for the spring to see everything turn green again. Can't wait
So there you have it. There is a lot of work to be done, especially on the outside, with painting and landscaping but that's half the fun of buying a house, right?
BTW, that is one of my 4 cats wandering around in the yard. They love it here!

I Need Your Help

Please, tell me what you see.
Is everything where it should be? Some people say all columns are where they should be. Others tell me the right column starts at the bottom of the last post on this page, instead of at the top.
Can you please leave me a comment and tell me what you see, and what browser you are using. I use Internet Explorer and it looks fine to me so I can't judge.
Have any suggestions how I can fix it? I'd love to hear that too.

Thanks

A few things I've done

Just wanted to post pics of a couple of things I've finished lately. These are both for swaps and I was quite pleased with the way things turned out so I thought I'd post. The top one is a shawl in mohair yarn. It was the first time I'd used anything but cotton or acrylic but it was nice. Turned out nice.

This was for a kitchen/bath swap. Some dishcloths. I used patterns by the Crochetdude and I really like the way a few of them turned out too.

Baby it's Cold Outside

I just finished this for a woman that works with my husband. I had made here a round ripple before her baby girl was born and she loved it. She asked my husband last week if I could make something else for her baby so I made this. It was super easy and fun to make!!

I got all the info from this post on Crochetville, where the CAL is happening.

A leafy weekend

We have soooo many trees where we moved to, so many oak trees and they've shed all their lovely leaves onto the ground for us to walk on, like a carpet. To be honest with you, I never bothered raking before and would just let the wind take care of it. There are just way too many leaves for the wind to deal with right now so we've helped them along.
Austin's job was to keep the dogs out of our hair and I have to say, he did his job the best.

Even Chico was 'pooped' by the end of the day. And he was cold so I had to wrap him up in my daughters sweater. Heck, she didn't need it. She was working too hard!!
